The Third Place
“In sociology, the third place refers to the social surroundings that are separate from the two usual social environments of home (“first place”) and the workplace (“second place”). Examples of third places include churches, cafes, bars, clubs, community centers, public libraries, gyms, bookstores, makerspaces, stoops, parks, theaters, and opera houses, among others (Wikipedia).”
The Third Place is a socialization and learning community space for PSA members – a virtual hangout where events are conceived, developed, and operated by the community.
GROUP OVERVIEW
The Third Place is for PSA members to get to know each other, to socialize, and to share ideas for interest, entertainment, and growth.
Initially, we will sponsor Happy Hour hangouts, speed networking, discussion forums, cultural events, and ad hoc video conferences. As this is a member space, we invite members to propose events and take on the roles of hosts and moderators.
WHAT PROBLEMS ARE WE AIMING TO SOLVE?
Many people do not have a third place in their lives. They are not part of a religious group, they are not interested in bars or clubs, and may prefer the convenience and safety of a virtual meeting place.
The Third Place provides a virtual community space for members to get to know each other, develop relationships and friendships, and form learning, support, and action groups based on common interests.
It is a safe space for members to socialize and share community.
